Qualzucht or “torture breeding” should it be a crime?

We found this article in today’s Telegraph fascinating.

Last week, two cat pedigree breeders in Switzerland were convicted under a law that forbids Qualzucht, which literally translates to ‘torture breeding’. Under this law it’s a crime to breed animals in the knowledge that their offspring is likely to suffer as a result of over or poor breeding. This has prompted many in the animal welfare community to question whether Qualzucth should become a part of UK law, in order to prevent suffering of poorly bred animals.
